Our Story
As a good Latin family, we know love is shown by feeding (ahem…over feeding) our gente. We live to feast together and share flavors with each other. This particular family, believes in flavor above all else and has been indulging their children’s taste buds with authentic family recipes since they were able to eat solids. Fast forward to the summer of 2019 when our hermana Carla, shared this magical recipe and encouraged us to try and build a business doing what we love (besides eating) that Denada Empanada was born. Hermana Carla got all of us bakin’, here in our new home in Miami, and from nada these healthy masterpieces - the Denada empanadas- were ready to go. We all became involved in brainstorming for a logo and branding, and crafting a unique presentation to sell these handmade, healthy nom noms; it was a huge group effort from all family members, both near and far, who were involved in our conception. A family affair, if we may.
You wonder why our empanadas are such a beauty? Good latín tradition we benefit from a Great grandmother (Blanquita) who taught her daughter (Charito) who taught her daughter (the aforementioned Carla) who in turn taught us the coveted art of the repulgado (fancy fold on the edge to seal the empanada).
Every single Denada empanada is a labor of love. Each one is the product of hardship, sacrifice, and new beginnings. They represent long hours and little sleep. Each one is a reminder of good times left behind and a testament to the even better times yet to come. Every empanada you see here is made with love and intention, and each invokes the passion one needs to succeed. So yeah, they are more than just a freaking delicious and healthy empanada. Certainly, more than just a side business and, we’ll say it again this time louder for the people in the back, Denada Empanada is a true LABOR OF LOVE.
Every single Denada invokes a shameless sense of family pride and heartwarming joy as they are crafted, by hand, one by one. From our familia to yours, we share our Denada empanadas. When the empanada you crave resides in the motherland, you create it from nada. And so, Denada [de - nada] empanada was born, in our kitchen, full of nostalgia and all of the hopes and dreams kind of feels.
